Academic Plan – How Should I Prepare for a Career in Electrical Engineering and My Research?

In this blog post, I will outline how my interest in science, which began in elementary school, has led to my career path in electrical engineering, my academic plans for college, my research goals, and my post-graduation plans and values.

Motivation for Pursuing This Field

I have loved science class since elementary school. Especially on days when we had science lab sessions, I would rush into the science lab the moment the bell rang. As I entered middle and high school, my interest in science grew even stronger, and the science lab—equipped with a wider variety of experimental tools—remained my favorite place.
Then one day, I happened to watch a TV documentary about electrical engineering. Upon learning that the technologies developed by electrical engineers were being used in wireless communications, including satellites, I became fascinated by the field. I decided to turn the interest in science I had nurtured since childhood into a dream of becoming an electrical engineer.
I hope to take the first step toward my dream at the university to which I am applying. I believe that specialized education is essential for analyzing rapidly evolving science and technology and developing new technologies, and I am confident that I can grow into a competent professional through a systematic and specialized curriculum.

Academic Plan and Goals

If accepted, I will diligently follow the curriculum and lay a solid foundation to become an outstanding electrical engineer in the future. I believe that merely studying a few isolated subjects is insufficient to understand and master rapidly advancing science and technology. Therefore, I have devised a concrete plan to deepen my understanding of electrical engineering and broaden my perspective.
First, during my freshman and sophomore years, I plan to focus on building a foundation of basic knowledge in my major and acquiring a broad general education. I believe that understanding the humanities, such as the history of science, is crucial for the development and application of science and technology. Therefore, I will take various liberal arts courses, including philosophy, to strengthen my humanities background and become an engineer with depth.
Additionally, I will consistently read the latest research papers and academic journals to stay abreast of trends in modern science. I will expand my social network through appropriate club activities and use my vacations to study foreign languages and improve my computer skills.
By my junior and senior years, I hope to begin research in the field of communications, which interests me. I plan to study calculus, engineering mathematics, and linear algebra to establish the theoretical foundation necessary for research in communications and to proceed to advanced studies. My goal is to find better solutions regarding data processing speed, accuracy, and complexity through various practical exercises and research.
To achieve this goal, I will analyze existing research theories, conduct experiments, and build my own dataset. If necessary, I would like to form a community by gathering seniors and juniors interested in similar fields to create an academic group where we can support and learn from one another.

Post-Graduation Plans

After graduating from college, I plan to immediately enter graduate school. I believe that further study is necessary to pursue research and technological development in the field of wireless communications, which interests me. Through graduate studies, I wish to acquire more specialized and in-depth theoretical knowledge and engage in diverse research activities.
In particular, I want to focus on exploring the potential for communication between satellites or with other celestial bodies. To achieve meaningful research results in these areas, I believe it is essential to gain hands-on experience observing and learning from cutting-edge technologies.
I will prepare to study abroad with the support of my affiliated institution by securing recognition for the validity of my research hypothesis. While establishing and gaining recognition for a sound research hypothesis will not be easy, I am confident that it will be a small but crucial first step toward realizing my dream. I will maintain a diligent attitude, consistently striving and preparing.

Personal Statement

I believe that a strong sense of responsibility and a professional sense of mission are paramount for a scholar. Since the cutting-edge technologies developed by scientists directly impact human life, I consider reckless experiments or theoretical developments based on unverified results to be extremely dangerous.
I believe that a great scientist should not be evaluated solely by their achievements but must also be distinguished by strict moral standards and a mature character. As an electrical engineering student, the academic achievements I strive for are ultimately altruistic, and I hope that the communication technologies I develop and advance will contribute to the progress of humanity.
Therefore, I will strive to become a scientist who does not focus solely on personal ambition but instead considers the opinions of many people to develop technologies that enhance the quality of life for humanity.
